"Little Tiger" unfolds through the life of Qi Shu Fang, a Chinese cultural icon known by millions as an extraordinary singer and martial artist. The film traces her fearless struggle to transmit her art to America, culminating in the first ever Peking opera production on Broadway. A founder of one of the most famous Peking opera groups in the U.S., her work has helped enrich and enhance the lives of many immigrants. In particular, we see the impact of her work on her own ensemble performers, whose lives are caught between the concept of preserving tradition and adapting to new circumstances in a different culture. It is the touching story of their efforts to build a community, as well as a cultural and artistic legacy in a new country.
Drawing extensively from spectacular archival footage and intimate interviews, this poignant, funny, and inspiring production juxtaposes the humble off-stage lives of Qi and company against their superb performances on-stage. Their story provides a unique insight into the beauty and remarkable nature of Peking opera and martial arts.
